About Chioma:

What does "CHI" represent?

Igbo Translation: God (Chioma means "Great God/God is Great")

Life Energy / Spiritual Energy 氣: is romanized as "Qi" or "Chi" in Chinese, "Gi" in Korean, and "Ki" in Japanese. Chi is believed to be part of everything that exists, as in "life force" or "spiritual energy". It is most often translated as "energy flow", or literally as "air" or "breath".

Peace and Blessings! My name is Yolanda "Chioma" and I am an event and portrait photographer based in the Chicagoland area. I feel honored and blessed to do this work. I take the profession seriously and value capturing individuals, nature, and overall, things that inspire me and that inspire people. The mutual energetic exchange I have with my clients is a key distinguishing factor for my photography. In essence, my role is to ensure you are comfortable and at ease with positive energy ("CHI") and overall a sense of confidence in your portrait.

I would love to serve as your photographer for your upcoming event or portrait! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about photo sessions!

1. How long have you been doing photography?

I have been a photographer since 2015. After taking a 101 beginner's guide to photography, I enrolled in a 1-year certification program to learn several aspects of photography. It was the best investment I made for myself and I continue to take courses to better my knowledge of the field.

2. What do you specialize in?

Excellent question! Although I love capturing everything, my main focus includes portraits and events. This encompasses a lot, so I’ll do a breakdown of the two:

Events: All parties, bridal showers, corporate events, galas, conferences, and much more. My style includes capturing classic moments (the laugh, the hug, the Denzel tear, etc.) both candid and staged.

*I recently added wedding photography to my portfolio on a case by case basis. You can check out my work in the portfolio section!

Portraits: Ranging from business headshots (both individual & group), lifestyle, glamour (think fashion or vogue), conceptual, couple, family maternity, graduation, and photo series.

3. What equipment do you use and provide?

I’m a Canon lady! I will say, I started with the Sony full-frame series (purchased my first DSLR from my Daddy!) and am familiar with the mirrorless alpha and e-mount  lens series. I use a full-frame Canon with several lenses for different purposes. I  provide tripods, diffusers, as well as Speedlite techniques for flash photos, and I offer backdrops and professional lighting (at an additional cost) if needed. I have a full-blown backdrop system as well as portable backdrops on the go. I have a studio coming soon and cannot wait to share it with others!

4. Do you offer single shots?

So about that…..asking photographers for just one shot can be tricky, but I plan to have express photo sales that encompass this.

5. Are you available to travel outside of Illinois?

I am and am more than happy to discuss logistics for your event based on location.

6. Do you work with other photographers/videographers?

I always love working with my fellow photographers and videographers. I have a team in place if you are looking for additional support with your event. Just let me know!
